Burgers get the Michelin-star touch at &Made, a bright and cheery restaurant located in Pacific Plaza on Scott’s Road. This restaurant focuses on the meat and bun meal, with a decent variety from your standard beef to the more unusual duck leg confit burger and lamb with onion jam. You can also pick and choose your own fillings. Order a side of truffle fries or a milkshake to accompany it. Desserts are equally fun and inventive, with the lollipop waffle with a variety of chocolate dipping sauces. For those who think burgers are a waste of good meat, never fear, &Made sister restaurant, L’Entrecote Express, is just next door and you can order great steak from there.

Regular patrons will agree that the original outlet on Tanglin (formerly at Tanglin Shopping Centre) is the best, but the service and food at the other outlets are still highly commendable. Canele is a delightful café and pastry shop offering superbly done pastries and cakes, as well as a bistro-style menu featuring salads, soups, stews and pastas. Come dinnertime or the weekend, you’re likely to be welcomed with a queue at this Taiwanese stalwart. The two outlets of PS.Cafe on Orchard are situated away from the hustle and bustle; the branch at Palais in particular is a great refuge from the heat or the hordes. Go for a leisurely brunch or sinful afternoon tea – although the prices are a little high, portions are generous and quality ingredients are used. The menu features comfort foods such as lasagna, soup and sandwiches as well as Asian-tinged dishes like the tandoori club and miso cod.
