Being the island’s foremost retail hub and hotel belt, Orchard Road is equally renowned for its dining scene. From 24-hour fast food takeaways and cafes to posh-nosh outlets, there’s a wide slew of dining options to cater to weary shoppers. Nearly every shopping mall in this retail haven has its own dedicated food court, hotels are home to many fine dining restaurants, and every other option in between can be found to suit all budgets and diets. Burgers get the Michelin-star touch at &Made, a bright and cheery restaurant located in Pacific Plaza on Scott’s Road. This restaurant focuses on the meat and bun meal, with a decent variety from your standard beef to the more unusual duck leg confit burger and lamb with onion jam. You can also pick and choose your own fillings. Order a side of truffle fries or a milkshake to accompany it. Desserts are equally fun and inventive, with the lollipop waffle with a variety of chocolate dipping sauces. For those who think burgers are a waste of good meat, never fear, &Made sister restaurant, L’Entrecote Express, is just next door and you can order great steak from there.

Regular patrons will agree that the original outlet on Tanglin (formerly at Tanglin Shopping Centre) is the best, but the service and food at the other outlets are still highly commendable. Annam brings a taste of Vietnam to Singapore, serving delicious food in a nostalgic setting. Nguyen Quoc, a Vietnamese chef who trained at the Michelin-starred Le Canard in Norway, prepares exquisitely prepared classical Vietnamese dishes. Canele has closed.
Canele is a delightful café and pastry shop offering superbly done pastries and cakes, as well as a bistro-style menu featuring salads, soups, stews and pastas. Also on the menu are sweet and savoury crepes, and homemade ice-creams in unusual flavours such as rose petal and Earl Grey. It has gained a good reputation for its macaroons and chocolate truffles.

The Crystal Jade Group has garnered a reputation for quality Chinese cuisine covering fine dining, family, specialty and casual dining. Its repertoire includes Teochew, Cantonese, Shanghainese and Hong Kong cuisine, and it is specially favoured for its dim sum.
Din Tai Fung
Come dinnertime or the weekend, you’re likely to be welcomed with a queue at this Taiwanese stalwart. The xiao long bao (steamed pork dumplings) alone are worth the wait, and other stellar dishes include fried rice with shrimps or pork chop, drunken chicken, braised beef noodles, and vegetable and pork wonton soup.

Ramen lovers rejoiced when this famous outfit from Japan opened its doors at the Mandarin Gallery. Particularly popular with the after-work crowd, most come for the hearty ramen in tonkatsu broth – choose from three original recipes and add a variety of toppings such as egg, chashu pork, spring onion, nori and red pickled ginger. The two outlets of PS.Cafe on Orchard are situated away from the hustle and bustle; the branch at Palais in particular is a great refuge from the heat or the hordes. Go for a leisurely brunch or sinful afternoon tea – although the prices are a little high, portions are generous and quality ingredients are used. The menu features comfort foods such as lasagna, soup and sandwiches as well as Asian-tinged dishes like the tandoori club and miso cod. Be sure to save room for dessert – there’s a wide selection of scrumptious cakes, pies, puddings and crumbles.

Taste Paradise features exquisitely prepared creations with a touch of sophistication.
