Five Izakaya Bar Singapore - or just ‘Fives Bar’, as it’s affectionately known - is famous for being one of the cheapest places to drink in Singapore. Nestled right in the city’s Central Business District on Collyer Quay, Fives Izakaya is a refreshing change from the often over-priced cocktail bars and swanky fine dining restaurants that this area is better known for. Small beers and house pours start at just S$5 – hence the name – Five Bar.
It’s not only cheap drinks that Fives Izakaya specialises in. Most nights, they have live music which usually comes in the form of a small acoustic band playing their sets on one of the most unusual stages we’ve seen in Singapore. Perched a good five metres above the main bar, the miniature stage is framed symmetrically by the two unused escalators which rise up from the ground floor, going all the way to the top.

While most cheap bars in Singapore draw in the crowds by putting on tempting happy hour promotions (which are forever subject to change), prices at Five Izakaya Bar stay the same, whether you come at 14:00 or 23:00, so you’re guaranteed a cheap night – as long as you check the menu first. Other decent drinks deals here include pints of Guinness for S$10++, five bottles of Budweiser for S$40++ and wine by the glass for S$6++.
Although being one of the cheapest bars in Singapore, those with some cash to splash aren’t restricted to five-dollar beers. As this is a city bar, expect to see office workers completely disregard the bargain drinks and opt for a bottle of liquor instead. Chivas Regal, Jack Daniels, various vodkas and aged scotches all come in at around S$250-S$700. Not so cheap anymore.
As with (most of) the drinks, Five Izakaya’s food falls into the student price range too, with burgers starting from S$5.95++, Japanese curries from S$11++ and pizzas at S$16++. Arrive after 20:00 for the music and expect the place to get pretty packed with thirsty office workers who spill out of their nearby offices on weekdays.
You can find Five Izakaya Bar Singapore near the Fullerton Hotel on Collyer Quay, just a short walk from Marina Bay or Raffles MRT Station. The Five Izakaya chain also has branches at Changi airport and a tapas bar on Cuppage Road (near Orchard Road).
