    Singapore Shopping Complex

Far East Plaza on Orchard Road is one of Singapore’s older shopping complexes attracting a young cool crowd looking for one-off bargain buys from unknown designers. Around 800 retail outlets occupy the six level mall catering to a mix of young students and tourists looking for something different. Fashion shops are on the casual and often outrageous side, tourists tend to visit more for the discounts available on items such as cameras and CD’s. Accessories are also a great buy here, especially custom made bags, belts and jewellery.

The shopping centre has many beauty shops offering manicures, facials and massages in addition to a growing number of tattoo parlours. Shopping here is best enjoyed during week days; it can get very crowded with Singaporean teenagers on weekends.

Far East Plaza is great for discount shopping, although you won’t see any well-known fashion brands, it’s certainly worth a look as the creative clothes designs and unique shoes here are nothing short of fun and inspiring. There are some souvenir and art shops at the mall - Kwok Gallery is a star attraction for tourists in the market for porcelain ornaments and jade sculptures.

There are also a range of branded electronic goods on sale, remember that bargaining is expected at this mall. Level one is a great place to start with loads of original accessories and cool clothes on display.

Dining here is quite informal, there is loads of choice with plenty of eateries located on the top floor and more hidden away throughout the mall. Food is mostly Asian with a heavy focus on Chinese. Most of the restaurants are inexpensive and open for brunch, lunch or dinner. There are also a number of coffee shops and the usual fast-food outlets although there is not a food court.

Customers are usually queuing up outside to get in so arrive early for lunch. Aside from the chicken, the tempeh is also very popular.

    Su Korean Cuisine

Serving up Korean favourite hot plates including pork collar, beef short ribs and seafood pancakes, Su Korean cuisine is exceptional value for money. Ginseng chicken soup is another popular choice and there is also set lunches available featuring soup, six side dishes, tea and fruit.

    The Japanese Kitchen

The Japanese Kitchen has a menu full of dishes that are perfect for sharing including sashimi and deep-fried oysters. The quality of the food is very high and comes at a very good price. The Japanese Kitchen is a good place to eat with a bunch of friends for lunch or dinner.

The main entertainment at Far East Plaza is people watching. Grab a drink at Oldtown White Coffee and watch the often bizarre world go by. At the weekends the mall is packed with wannabee trend-setters showcasing their latest look. There are plenty of tattoo parlours and body piercing shops at the shopping centre catering to the youthful crowd. If it all becomes too much, then why not take a visit to one of the beauty shops for a foot massage.

Far East Plaza is located at the Scotts Road and Orchard Road intersection. There are plenty of buses that stop right outside and the Orchard Road MRT is a short stroll away. Underground car parking is also available. The mall opens daily from 10:00 - 22:00, visit during the weekday when it will be less crowded.
