Shopping Complex on Orchard Road

Ngee Ann City is one of Singapore’s high-end shopping landmarks on Orchard Road. The commercial complex has been presenting fashion brand names, top bookstores, beauty parlours, and restaurants to well-heeled shoppers since the last couple of decades. The mall also boasts an art and creativity section and the Takashimaya department store spread over 7 levels.

Designer labels are aplenty and include Cartier, BOSS, Dior and Chanel, and while trendy European high street brands such as Zara, Mango and Ted Baker are also represented, the accent at Ngee Ann City is undoubtedly on Japanese brands. If you’re feeling peckish along your walks through Orchard Road, Ngee Ann City is a great spot to head into with a world selection of food and beverages on offer.

The main tenant at Ngee Ann City is Takashimaya department store occupying Basement 2 to Level 4, and which presents fashion greats such as Bvlgari, Coach, Polo Ralph Lauren, and Hermès. Spread across the other levels are 130 speciality stores selling the latest in designer fashion, including Calvin Klein and Salvatore Ferragamo.

There are also plenty of health and beauty stores, accessory outlets, and Asia’s largest bookstore Kinokuniya. Japanese electronic retail titan Best Denki is also here.

Tonkichi is a locals’ favourite, popular with Singaporeans and resident expats. Famed for juicy pork dishes, Tonkichi is known throughout Taiwan for serving the best Tonkatsu. The Singapore branch also delivers with Pork Loin Katsu being the diners’ favourite. Unusual items to try include the fried oysters. Tonkichi will certainly fill you up and additionally is excellent value for money.

Crystal Jade Ginseng Chicken & BBQ

There are quite a few Crystal Jade restaurants at Ngee Ann City but the one favoured by those in the know is the Korean version – Ginseng Chicken and BBQ. The tender chicken ginseng soup is highly recommended and served with an assortment of accompaniments including Kimchi, salad and veggies. The atmosphere is loud and vibrant with superb friendly service, a great experience if you are with a large party or dining with children.


There is much more to Ngee Ann City than shopping and dining. Takashimaya Square is frequently home to market style bazaars and shopping events, whilst outside the complex Civic Plaza hosts events accommodating up to 3,000 people. Concerts, fashion shows, and carnivals regularly take place at this giant semi-circle which forms part of Ngee Ann City.

Events are quite often free and include sporting activities such as rock climbing, rodeo, jousting, and even sumo wrestling. There is also a fully equipped fitness gym inside the mall.

To get to Ngee Ann City on Orchard Road, take the MRT and depart at either Orchard or Somerset. If you’re travelling by bus, you can get off at Tang Plaza, Lucky Plaza, or the Mandarin Hotel. The mall is also connected to 2 office towers and a medical centre on Level 8 of Tower B.
