Nightlife in Little India is not something that first comes to mind when you think about this vibrant, multicultural neighbourhood. Although Little India is an incredible place – famous for its beautiful temples, deliciously curries and multitude of bargain shopping opportunities – foreigner-friendly bars are not exactly its forte.
That said, there’re still plenty of worthwhile things to do here after dark. In fact, we have found 5 of the best night spots in Little India, many of which involve bars within backpacker hostels, offering fun, friendly and cheap ways of enjoying the area’s quiet but interesting nocturnal side.

Prince of Wales Backpacker Pub
This bar, doubling up as a backpacker hostel (or a backpacker hostel doubling up as a bar, we’re not quite sure), is the go-to place for travellers in the Little India area. The whole Aussie-themed and run pub oozes a genuinely feel-good, non-pretentious vibe that wouldn’t be too out of place on Bangkok’s backpacking Mecca of Khao San Road. Nightly live music performances, cheap beers and a big communal area with TVs and games spark up lively conversation, all making the Prince of Wales Backpacker Pub the best of its type in Little India.

Zsofi Tapas Bar
With its impressive ‘buy one drink, get one tapas free’ offer, Zsofi Tapas Bar inevitably pulls in its fair share of budget backpackers looking to make their precious Singaporean dollars go that little bit further. As well as frugal travellers, expect trendy locals as well as some less budget-conscious tourists all cramming into the small and funky downstairs room to enjoy the exquisite range of Spanish treats and selection of draft beers and cocktails. Find Zsofi Tapas Bar on Dunlop Street, just off Little India’s main Serangoon stretch and a few minutes’ walk from Little India MRT.

Curry and Beer close to Tan Teng Niah
One popular night time activity for Little India’s locals is to head to the food court area around the House of Tan Teng Niah. Built-in tables and chairs sit in the shadow of the award-winning, multi coloured Tan Teng Niah house, meaning you can enjoy your curry (bought from one of the nearby vendors) whilst enjoying the frantic, yet pretty surroundings. If you want to go for the really local experience, grab a can of ‘Knock Out’ Indian-brand beer from a nearby shop to wash down your food and make your journey home all the more fun.
- Opening Hours: 16:00 – late daily
- Location: Around Kerabu Road

Although Suprette on Jalan Besar is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, this cafe-cum-bar also makes a great night spot for those staying around the Little India area. Suprette’s comprehensive drinks menu was a key factor which persuaded us to include it in our list of the best nightlife in Little India. Their traditional cocktails are mixed well, joined with some more creative concoctions such as their ‘Good...Let The Hate Flow Through You’ (absinthe, lemon & ginger beer) or their ‘Spiced Pisco Sour’ (pisco, orange, cajun spice & egg white). Suprette can be found on the ground floor of the wonderful boutique-style Wanderlust Hotel, which boasts four unique floors of rooms, each themed by local designers and artists.

This scruffy yet ever-so fun backpacker bar definitely falls into Singapore’s ‘quirky’ nightlife category. With an outrageously eclectic interior (think drinks served jam jars, shiny green plastic table cloths and old vinyl glued to the walls), as well as cheap drinks and live sports, travellers looking for an affordable watering hole could do a lot worse than spend a few hours here. Countryside Cafe is one of a number of hostel/backpacker bars on the ever-popular Dunlop Street, just a few metres down from the main road that runs through the heart of Little India.
