Central Clarke Quay
Central is a modern shopping mall located in – you guessed it – central Clarke Quay. In fact, you can actually access the mall directly from the MRT station at this picturesque waterside spot, meaning it’s not only the most popular mall in the area, but also the most convenient. The selection of shopping options isn’t as comprehensive as the mega malls of Orchard Road, but Central is definitely worth a visit if you fancy some mall browsing alongside a sturdy choice of riverside dining options; Central Clarke Quay is home to some excellent Japanese, European and seafood restaurants which hug the water’s edge. At Central you’ll also find Lockdown a great ‘real life’ adventure game for the whole family.

With its bright red sign brilliantly lit up at night over the water’s edge, Riverside Point is hard to miss. The shopping centre is home to several independent stores as well as some more well know outlets selling everything from clothes, accessories, home ware and souvenirs. Alongside a decent selection of shops, there’s also a great range of dining options, all set around a cute interactive water feature with jets of water that shoot up. The central atrium opens up allowing light to flood inside in the daytime and come night, and a variety of street performers entertain the crowds who flock here to both eat and shop.

The Royal Selangor store at Clarke Quay boasts a great range of handmade pewter, which come mostly in the form of tableware, including teapots, plates, and cutlery. Pewter is a tin-based alloy metal, and these techniques of production can be traced all the way back to the 15th century. Today, Royal Selangor works with the metal in over 20 countries across the world. You’ll find an in-house team working away to produce beautifully crafted items which are great to take back home to use or to give somebody as a unique gift.

Liang Court is another medium sized mall in Clarke Quay set by the pretty waterside of the Singapore River. Recently subject to a S$40 million renovation in 2008, this multi-storey mall features over 20 different restaurants and a good choice of fashion outlets and food stores including MEIDI-YA supermarket, Kinokuniya, Audio House and Kopitiam. The mall is just a five minutes’ walk from the nearby Clarke Quay MRT station and can also be accessed from Raffles Place or City Hall. Liang Court is actually part of a mixed development which also includes the huge 326 room Novotel Clarke Quay Hotel.

This swanky little tailor can be found just off Boat Quay, and caters towards high-end men’s fashion. If you’re looking for some dapper fitting shirts, gorgeous handmade leather shoes, or just want to add a classy accessory to your wardrobe, such as a new tie or some fancy cufflinks, then fifyfive is a great bet – as long as you have a bit of cash to splash. Shirts from local outfit Crawford & Sons start from around S$150, bags are at the S$200 mark and a pair of their bespoke shoes (made by Ed Et Al) can set you back between $2,500-3,500). Pricey, but this level of style never comes cheap.

Funan DigitalLife Mall
Just a short walk up North Bridge Road from Clarke Quay station or City Hall MRT is Funan DigitalLife Mall, a one-stop-shop for all your electrical needs. Also known as ‘Funan IT Mall’ or just ‘Funan Centre’, this mall boasts one of the most comprehensive (and reasonably priced) arrays of computers, phones, TVs, cameras and electrical accessories in the whole of Singapore. But Funan DigitalLife is not just about the gadgets; you’ll also find a range of home-ware stores, a few fashion outlets, beauty salons and a good helping of restaurants (including an excellent food court) to fuel your shopping endeavours!

Great World City
Great World City is just a short work up river form Clarke Quay MRT station, meaning this six-storey complex of shops, restaurants, offices and apartments also fringes the Orchard Road and Somerset areas. With over 400,000 square feet of shopping space, there’s ample space for a huge collection of fashion stores (including Zara, Dorothy Perkins and Marks & Spencer), eateries (including various fast food joints, chain restaurants and a food court) as well as a six-screen cinema at the top. Great World City is also a popular stop for families in the surrounding neighbourhood with its huge supermarket selling a big choice of all your usual groceries.

UE Square Shopping Mall
UE Square Shopping Mall is part of a wider complex of offices and function rooms, and all the shopping can easily be found on the first three levels of this futuristic-looking building at Clarke Quay. At UE Square Shopping Mall you’ll find a mix of high street fashion stores, entertainment and dining options, which cater for the locals in the River Valley neighbourhood as well as a steady supply of tourists. Restaurants on the top floor include En Grill & Bat, Connoisseur Divan and the splendid Z’en Japanese Cuisine. Cross over the bridge from Riverside Point to Clarke Quay and you’ll find a lively lifestyle and entertainment centre of restaurants, wine bars, entertainment spots and retail shops. Immerse yourself in the bustling market atmosphere of the old days as you saunter through quaint shophouses, pushcarts, and five-foot-way merchants. Stop by the Royal Selangor Pewter Store for the latest pewter designs. Wander around the pushcarts selling unique pottery, jewellery, woodcrafts and other knick-knacks. Although it’s better known for its dining and entertainment outlets, Clarke Quay is worth a visit if only for its friendly, colourful and festive atmosphere.

Art-2 Gallery Singapore
Since the turn of the 1990’s, Art-2 Gallery has been displaying, and selling, some of Singapore’s finest paintings and art installations, as well as providing a consultancy service for the city-state’s art lovers. Just a short walk from Clarke Quay across the river on Hill Street, Art-2 Gallery specialises in contemporary three-dimensional sculptures, installations and ceramics, and the gallery also hosts regular exhibitions promoting the work form local artists as well as some more internationally recognised names from around Asia. The compact gallery’s range is simply stunning, and along with its great central location, it’s definitely worth an hour or two of your time if you’re around Clarke Quay.
